After the major outbreak of H1N1 in last August we saw a lot of changes in lifestyle of urban Punekars. Schools were closed for sometime then they all opened. H1N1 was always there so schools made it compalsory for the childen to wear masks and carry sanitizers to schools. Number of swine flu cases were coming down in the city. So parents like us started sending our kids to school with full precaution.
I had taught all the dos and donts to my son. Well whats the use. I will give you the true picture.I cannot deny the fact that all the children are carrying masks to school. But only 5% are actually wearing it properly. Older kids hardly wear mask and among preprimary kids, most of them just hang it around their neck like necklace. Teachers are list bothered and so are most of the parents. I guess I am one of the few parents who goes to school wearing mask (since it is compulsory for kids). So I got used to few odd stares. I really don't care if someone is laughing at me. I have to take all the precautions I can for my kid. Inspite of the schools telling parents not to send their kids to school with running nose, sneeze, cough etc parents are least bothered. So children are regularly coming to school with all these symptoms. Well as soon they land up in the school they are taken to sick bay. But by that time they have already infected others. They come all together in school bus and sit together in class. Swine flu has again started in schools. In my son's school there is already one case and school didn't even bother to inform us. In my society there are few children whose classmate was infected so they have 10 days holiday. well guess what ...they are having fun...birthday parties...shopping etc etc... Are the parents fools or they just don't care. I am fedup with all these. Why people can't take little precaution. If you tell them there is a ready made answer. "SWINE FLU IS PART AND PARCEL OF LIFE AND IT IS COMPLETELY CURABLE SO THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ...JUST EAT WELL TO MAKE YOUR IMMUNITY SYSTEM STRONG". Some of them are even trying homeopathy and they are sure they will never catch swine flu. Wow...which world we live in. So much ignorance. I believe precaution is better than cure.
So I request everyone to take few precuations ( wearing masks, not spitting in public, staying home if you are sick, avoiding crowded places) to keep H1N1 under control
